Pam Crossley

"The Thrown Form with Surface Decoration"

Studio Artemis is very pleased to welcome a leading tutor of Art and Ceramics to conduct a 10 week course during Term 4 exploring the "Wheel Thrown Form and Surface Decoration"

Tutor Pam Crossley has a wealth of experience teaching Ceramics and Art. Pam graduated with a Master of Visual Arts (major in ceramics) from the Australian National University in Canberra and has a Bachelor of Education (Art) from City Art Institute (UNSW) in Sydney. Having taught Art in secondary and primary schools for over 20 years, Pam has recently been lecturing & delivering the Diploma of Ceramics at Holmesglen TAFE which was recently discontinued due to withdrawal of Government funding. Pam brings a wealth of experience to the Studio Artemis teaching realm and worked at Holmesglen as their Ceramics & Kiln Technician.

Pam joins us for this course commencing Thursday October 12th - Thursday December 14th 10 weeks

Classes suited to:

Beginners to intermediate

Include: 5 kgs of Clay supplied at start up and extra clay supplies can be purchased at discount price to all enrolled students

Use of all pottery equipment including x 10 Venco electric pottery wheels, slab roller & clay extruders

Bisque and glaze firing of all works included (not exceeding 20cm in height or length)

Standard bisque and glaze firing costs included. Extra firing costs will apply for larger objects weighing over 2kg or non standard firing

The Wheel Thrown Form and Surface Decoration

10 week duration

Suits Beginners to intermediate

Exploring the nature of clay, form and decoration, students will learn and consolidate their wheel throwing skills for the first 5 weeks. Students will practice Centering Techniques, small cylinders, trimming and foot turning. They will then explore techniques and design elements to decorate these forms whilst continuing to refine thrown forms for the rest of the course. Techniques explored will use underglaze and glaze, sgraffito, masking, ways of drawing on forms and manipulating designs to suit the forms.

All completed works will be bisque fired and glaze fired in our large kilns to be taken home at the duration of the 10 week Term.
